The cost of R&D per approved drug in the US has increased 10-15x in the past 4 decades. No wonder innovators are increasingly looking at CDMO companies in India, China, etc. to outsource manufacturing to. Capital and R&D expenditure would prove to be too taxing on their return ratios!

Peak coal, like peak oil remains elusive!

“While last year the IEA initially estimated consumption in 2023 at 8,563 million tons, it pegs it now at 8,687 million. The difference equals roughly the annual demand of Japan, the world’s fourth-biggest coal consumer.” No marks for guessing the highest consumer of coal in the world- a whopping 49% gets consumed by a single country, China.

Doing retail the wholesale way!

COSTCO has built one hell of a moat. Even at this scale, they are seeing a 7%+ growth in paid memberships! And this is despite the membership fee increase of 5%+ undertaken last year.

(They have a 1st Sep- 31st Aug financial year- so these are the numbers for their Q1 25).

No wonder rom-coms are dead!

Majority of the married couples in the US now meet online vs. running into soulmates at bars, work, school or simply meeting through friends/ family. No wonder writers nowadays don’t have it in them to write good quality rom-com scripts. There is a dearth of inspiration!
