In the US, the median age of a MTV viewer is 51 years old (and here we thought people stopped watching the channel after they stopped being teenagers!)

The news channel with the oldest viewership by median age is MSNBC at 70!

We have enough paneer!

US, China and Australia are the most protein rich countries while India remains protein poor in supply with less than 70g available per capita.

However with the average weight of India at 60kg (65 for men and 55 for women, our requirement is merely 48g per capita per day! But this assumes no leakage.

Late to their own party?

The capex of North American commodity producers only began picking up again in 2021. But at the same time they were massively increasing dividend payouts and buybacks – to the point that they equaled capex spending in 2022 – limiting the amount the firms could spend on new investment and maintenance capital expenditure. Only now are we seeing a step up in capex and a decline in dividends and buybacks!

High on Koolaid?

The Indian equity market appears to be fairly benevolent or complacent with basic issues such as market size and profitability being sidelined, given its obsession with narratives. Valuation methodologies have low or no linkage to fundamentals, which makes high multiples palatable, no matter how outrageous the implied math for underlying parameters becomes at higher multiples. The current benign mood has resulted in much higher number of high P/E companies currently compared with history. Even ignoring ‘young’ companies in ‘young’ industries, the number is very high.
